Effectiveness of Learning Activity Sheets in Teaching Araling Panlipunan for Grade 9 Students in Public Secondary Schools

Abstract

This study determined the effectiveness of learning activity sheets (LAS) in teaching Araling Panlipunan among Grade 9 students in selected public secondary schools in Taytay District during the School Year 2025–2026. Specifically, it examined the level of effectiveness of LAS in terms of conceptual understanding, skill development, and self-monitoring, as well as the relationship between perceived effectiveness and students’ academic performance. The study employed a descriptive survey research design and documentary analysis. A total of 346 respondents were selected from a population of 2,555 Grade 9 students using Slovin’s formula and simple random sampling. Respondents were profiled according to sex, sibling position, number of children in the family, monthly family income, parents’ educational attainment, and parents’ occupation.Findings revealed that the use of learning activity sheets was perceived as highly effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, skill development, and self-monitoring. Most respondents were male, belonged to families with more than two children, and had a monthly family income of ₱20,000 and above. Their parents were mostly college undergraduates or graduates and were either employed or self-employed. Statistical analysis showed that sex, sibling position, and number of children in the family had no significant effect on students’ perceptions of LAS effectiveness. However, monthly family income, parents’ educational attainment, and occupation significantly influenced their perceptions. Furthermore, students’ academic performance in Araling Panlipunan was rated very satisfactory, and a significant relationship was found between the effectiveness of LAS and academic performance.The study concluded that socio-economic factors influence students’ perceptions of LAS effectiveness, and that LAS significantly contribute to improved academic performance. It is recommended that teachers continuously enhance and innovate learning activity sheets, while schools implement action plans to maximize their effectiveness. Further studies may explore additional variables affecting learning outcomes.
